Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (α2M) is a protease inhibitor found in plasma and in extracellular spaces. It contains a binding site for low density lipoprotein receptor related protein (LRP-1), resulting in its removal from the blood. Additionally, α2M binds and shuttles growth factors such as transforming growth factor (TGF), platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB), nerve growth factor (NGF), and neurotrophin-4.
Our Human Alpha 2 Macroglobulin ELISA Kit is a sandwich ELISA for the detection of human alpha 2-macroglobulin in plasma, serum, lysates, and other biological fluids. Samples or standards are added to an anti-α2M antibody coated plate followed by the addition of a biotinylated anti-apoB-100 antibody. A streptavidin enzyme conjugate is then added for detection. The absorbance is read at 450nm and the level of α2M in samples is determined based on the provided human α2M standard curve.
