Ketone bodies are water-soluble molecules produced from fatty acid oxidation in the liver and kidney. ß-Hydroxybutyrate is the most prevalent in serum and accounts for about 75% of all ketone bodies measured. High levels of ketone bodies can lead to ketosis or ketoacidosis.
Our Beta-Hydroxybutyrate (Ketone Body) Assay Kits measure total ß-BH present in a variety of sample types. The assay is based on an enzymatic cycling reaction in which NAD+ is reduced to NADH. The assay is run in a standard 96-well microplate format; kits are available with either colorimetric or fluorometric detection.
